Comments
Comments: Aimed for an afternoon hike hoping for clear skies and wasn't disappointed. Clouds broke heading up the Kanc and had clear skies for my hike. From 1/2 inch to an inch of new snow on the trail. Down low this was over packed snow with some patches of ice, sticky snow did ball up under my traction. Above trail junction trail became progressively more ice under the snow. Above Allen's ledge trail was probably more ice hidden under the new snow than packed snow. Fortunately snow was powder rather than sticky. Solid ice on the trail definitely required traction - hillsounds worked well; based on tracks ice was a bit much for microspikes in places. Great views up top with interesting cloud formations; Passaconway had a nice ring of clouds below the summit. No recent traffic heading down towards the south ledges.
