| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
York Pond Road was fine. Plowed lots at all the trailheads. Small 3-4 car lot at York Pond, lots of folks parked off the road nearby. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
A couple open small seeps. The larger crossings (which are still small) were solidly iced-over, including the one someone steppes through last weekend. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
One easy duck under shortly into the climb on the Kilkenny Ridge Trail, 6-8". Not an issue now, if we ever get a real snowpack it may become a nuisance. The sign that uses to be in the summit clearing of Cabot is missing. Otherwise the trails were in great shape. |
|
| Dog-Related Notes: |
Easy conditions right now, just the couple seeps to watch out for wet paws on. Met Isis between the cabin and the summit, she looked like she was having a ball. |

| Comments: |
Opted to leave the snowshoes in the car and it was the right call. Not enough snow to use them yet, 1" powder on top of an icy crust. Slightly more snow higher up and a few 4" drifts around the summit. Maybe the snow tonight will change this. Microspikes or the Hillsound equivalent were the weapon of choice, no issues at all.
A quick up/quick down with a light dusting of snow having fallen by 2:30. Good to see Sue and Earl, and Pete and Kelly for the first time in a while,, and good to meet Rachel and Isis. Congrats to Chris and Nancy for winter checkmarks, thabks for coming along on the fun. You are both getting close! |
