Plowed, but the uphill entrance from Rt. 49 is a little icy. |

|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Smaller streams were frozen - maybe all the way through from what I could tell. Two larger crossings were ice covered and was able to walk right across. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Four blow downs on the Sandwich Mtn trail past the junction with Drakes. Had to do a sit and spin on a couple to get over, but nothing difficult. |

Saw a border collie enjoying himself. |

| Comments: |
Went up Sandwich Mtn trail and below about 3000 feet the trail was a bit of snow on a lot of ice. Combined with the rocky terrain, Hillsound trail pros were a good choice. Tried MSRs on the way up, not enough traction. After the junction with Drakes snowshoes would be OK, but not necessary as the snow is shallow over a well packed base with no postholing. Drakes was very different - decent snow base, little ice, and snowshoes would be great. |
