Parking/Access Road Notes: Parked along the edge of the road off Bickford Rd. Not sure if its OK to park in the sand pit area.

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: One wider brook near the start at Bickford Rd easily crossed on rocks. One other wet crossing also easily managed
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Lots of downed trees on the entire route, from Round Pond until the intersection of the Straightback Trail with the Brook Trail on the backside of Major. A couple of the painted wooden arrow signs have fallen off or the trees have come down. Yellow tape in trees is very helpful in some spots.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs are fine on this trail, I did it once with a friend who brought her pug! Avoid the steeper cliff section and stay to the left on the alternate route on Quarry - there is a sign pointing this out.
Bugs
Bugs: only a few black flies toward the end of the hike but they are coming!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Lost a foam sitting pad in the section between Kemp and Rand (or maybe between Rand and Quarry)

Comments
Comments: Most of the trail is well marked and obvious. The white trail leaves Kemp to the left at the third set of ledges. It is only marked with three small stones and a white turn arrow that might be easily missed. There are some old slash areas from past logging that are quite messy and can obscure the trail a little. The logging roads are still there so be sure to locate the trail on the other side of the road and don't follow the road! Maps are available at the Laconia and Gilford Public Libraries for $3 and are well worth the money.
