Early on the trail was nicely packed and only slightly chewed up by barebooters. Once the trail broke out of the trees a mile below the summit it was more ragged with a bunch of postholes. The summit had a thin layer of snow with a breakable ice crust over the top, but the trail was packed to the stairs of the fire tower. Some type of traction was necessary on the summit. On the way down after noon the trail had softened up quite a bit and there were a half a dozen barebooters descending after me, so I'm guessing the trail is pretty gnarly now.
I hiked with snowshoes the entire time except for the first quarter mile where I barebooted off the trail because I needed to use the little boys' room but wanted to get beyond the private properties first. |
