Comments
Comments: baldface circle trail was packed out smooth and solid. slippery brook trail was broken out and solidified, but did not get enough traffic to smooth it out before it set up. the trail to eastman had not seen recent traffic and had a breakable crust over a semi consolidated base. i got the feeling some people had been through this winter, but not since the last storm. i generally didn't sink in more the 4-6 inches if even that. some sections of heavy moose usage including one long string of beds. pretty solid windblown drifts up around the summit with continued crust on top. water crossings were all frozen. the spur trail to emerald pool was well packed out.

i wore snowshoes the whole hike.

after passing by the spur to this summit a couple times in last year i decided today it should be a destination on its own. great day for it. other than some snow squalls to the west the skies were clear with good summit views to the surrounding peaks. the trail up eastman goes through some nice woods that are full of moose sign. such a beautiful area. great to be out.
