Comments
Comments: I parked off the side of Base rd near a tar driveway that leads back to a series of foundation piers. Anyone know what used to be there? I wacked mostly straight toward the summit of Deception occasionally finding sections of logging roads and an old blue-blazed trail. Barebooted up through mostly open woods. Around three thousand feet I hit consistent soft snow and switched to snowshoes. Just before the summit I came across fresh footprints! Checking the register showed that Bill M had registered today. I must have missed him because of my late start. I stayed in snowshoes along the ridge. I paralleled the ridge a bit lower to avoid thicker sections along the ridge. Woods were moderately thick along most of the ridge to Dartmouth. Relatively easy over to Millen Hill. Saw tons of moose sign all day long and finally came upon my first moose of the season near the summit of Millen. He didn't stay around long enough for conversation or a photo op. The descent from Millen had the most challenging woods of the day. Lots of thick stuff. Crossed Jefferson Brook on a log. Walked out on Jefferson Notch Rd. Its about half clear. Another week or so should have it clear. At the intersection with Base rd I had stashed my mountain bike. Had a fun time whizzing down Base rd back to my truck. Another fun day out and about!
