Nothing but dry trail and some very watery and muddy spots until just below 4,000 feet, when snow appeared. Bare booted a fair distance, but spikes were necessary quite quickly for me. I imagine a bunch of younger people I saw go up were happy barebooted all the way up, but I preferred to stay cautious.
The trail from Zeta Pass up to Hight would have been foolish without spikes. Most of the rest of the day I could have finessed anything without them.
