Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: We did not have to cross the Wild River via our route as there were bridges at either end. However, we did bushwhack about a half mile up the southwest side of Bull Brook as we looked to make a connection from the Highwater Trail to the Shelburne Trail in its post-Irene state. We picked up the rest of Shelburne Trail on the descent. Also, at many if not all of the water crossings, we had some difficulty finding the trail on the opposite side due to absence of blazes and light treadway/treadway covered with leaves hiding the trail. Also, several of the sections of the Highwater Trail no longer exist as they have been washed into the Wild River - there is little indication of re-routes as this norther section of the Highwater Trail is little-travelled.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Shelburne Trail is quite brushy - in places it is grown over with hobblebushes and small fir trees. Kenduskeag Trail is also very grown over - foliage covers the trail in many places. Blowdowns continuous in the Wilderness.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes:
Bugs
Bugs: Deet and lots of it as there are many streams and wet spots for breeding these freeloaders

Comments
Comments: Thanks Amy P for a great day! New Trails for both of us!!! Minutes after getting on the summit of Shelburne Moriah a big dark cloud dumped hail and lots of rain. Very wet but still fun. Then... out came the sun and dried up all the rain :)

Very fun trail-finding at times - luckily we carried multiple navigational aids!!!! :)
