Comments
Comments: Stoney brook trail was in good shape. Only patches of snow higher up after the last water crossing. Snow and monorail were frozen solid without being icy. The few blowdowns really need a trail crew to clear, but for most of it they are no impediments to staying on the trail. Carter-Moriah trail had many treetops on the trail and at times it looked like an intense battlefield with many "dead soldiers". The only annoying thing were the many lean-ins. There were a few places were the ledges had black ice but most of the ledges were dry and clear of snow or ice. While I carried snowshoes and microspikes I was able to get by any difficult spot without them. Some might want to put on microspikes on the Carter - Moriah trail. Lots of rime ice that came down with the breeze as I was hiking up. View to the Presis was spectacular as everything above treeline was coated with fresh snow from the weekend. It looked like someone had covered it with powdered sugar. Had the trails to myself today.
