Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: There are access issues. A local stated that there have been “some problems” around Stratford Bog Pond. The former access where you cross a bridge and go up a steep dirt hill and bear right is now posted. A local told me I could take an old road that bears right, immediately before the bridge going through someone’s yard and passing piles of trash. This lead to the pond. There is parking across from the houses The road going up the drainage between Savage and East Spruce is posted below the col. The postings continue for a considerable distance to the south, quite possibly making this approach completely illegal. This is the reason that I did not summit.

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: On the old road to Stratford bog pond there is a crossing that required knee deep wading. A local implied that this is the only access to the pond for public.

Comments
Comments: After making the long walk to the pond and up the drainage, I spent considerable time trying to skirt around the private property. I headed south waiting for a corner, where I could legally turn up to the ridge. When I finally got a corner (marked by cairn) I was pleased an I could head west. After a steep climb, the boundary turned south again, completely blocking me, just short of the ridge. At this point I gave up, having wasted many hard hours. I will be trying again from the west, most likely from Bissell road. I worry that if peak baggers/bushwhackers do not respect private land, we will get a bad reputation (and perhaps we already have one in some circles). This was a very disappointing day, as it would have been a pretty easy peak if there was access. In the afternoon it was getting late and pouring, so a second hike was forgone.
