Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails look good. Unknown Pond could use a bit of brushing and Kilkenny had a few step-over blowdowns.

Bugs
Bugs: Tons. They were especially bad near the pond (of course). They bit through clothing. Once you get a couple tenths of a mile past the pond, they aren't too bad. Black flies, Mosquitos, deer flies, etc.

Comments
Comments: This northern approach to Cabot is nice, but it is probably even nicer in the fall, when the number of bugs have diminished. The pond is scenic (when the bugs aren't eating you alive). The trails never felt steep until the last summit push to Cabot.

The giant boulder on Horn's summit presented an initial difficulty for me until I discovered a little path through/into the trees that leads you around the left of the boulder and to an easier stepping-up point. Most folks can probably scramble straight up it from the front, though (my kids did, but I couldn't make it).

The Bulge has a cairn on its summit.

We ate cotton candy on Cabot...part of our Desserts on the 48 quest.

Congrats to Sage for another 52WAV peak in the bag. Only a handful of hikes to go.

There'll be a trip report on my blog late Saturday evening.
