Trails
Trails: Mt. Cube Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Saturday, August 16, 2014
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Wide roadside parking, see note above about where the actual trail starts, it isn't the yellow-blazed cut near the pull-off.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Fairly easily rock-hopped
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A few scattered recent blowdowns, likely from Wednesday's rains. One was a multi-limbed tree which I could have mostly cleared off the trail if I had my handsaw. The main trunk might need a larger saw. Finding where the trail entered the woods was a little tricky, as it wasn't the yellow-blazed cut right at the pull-off parking area. It is about 150 feet West.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Saw a couple, seemed fine but watch out on the North peak ledges.
Bugs
Bugs: None!

Comments
Comments: Headed up to meet our AT thru-hiker friends who stayed at the Hexacuba Shelter the night before. Met them about 1/2-way up, and after a nice chat we continued up to the summit while they continued North. Great views from the ledges on the North peak, and really cool rock too. The South peak has very nice views too. Very obvious why this peak is a 52WAV peak. We saw a dozen or so others out hiking the peak (in addition to another 1/2-dozen thru-hikers), but overall a fairly quiet corner of NH. I need to hike around here more, very nice area. The trail was pretty easy overall compared to the usual 4K trail. Good footing, not that steep, only a couple minor mud pits. And you've got to love those awesome DOC trail signs!
