Water Crossing Notes: None encountered
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Many blowdowns, some recent, some not so recent. Trail is overgrown and hard to follow in places. I could have used a chainsaw and a machete.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: didn't see any dogs but I fit dog could do this hike.
Bugs
Bugs: Bugs are the summits but also huge dragonflies, and I mean the size of jumbo shrimp, feasting on the bugs. No bugs to speak of on the trails despite the lack of wind.

Comments
Comments: I had intended to climb Shaw via the Shaw trail but took a wrong turn and ended up on a side trail and went up over Mt Tate (also called Big Ball Mt) and took a poorly maintained blue blazed trail to Black Snout and then the carriage road to Mt Shaw. It was a hard hike but fun none the less. I didn't realize I missed the Shaw trail until I got home and re-read the trail descriptions in my AMC guide. Not sure who maintains these trails, or if they are maintained at all, any info would be appreciated.
