Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The short access road to Waumbek is rather rough for a car, more than I can remember but still doable; keep to the left. The road to the Unknown Pond TH is signed out on 110 and it has a good gravel surface.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Step overs
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were quite a few blowdowns, often walk-arounds on the Weeks section. There was a major blowdown just down from Cabot to its north, and a couple less significant thereafter. There were spot brushy sections, particularly on Unknown Pond. The water bars on the section from Bunnell Notch up to Cabot were mostly filled and no longer functioning. Mud spots were rather rare, mostly on Unknown, and not a problem. New sign on Cabot, although not on the actual summit a short distance away, although the old one wasn't either. The other signs were in place. The spring on Cabot is unsigned but its obvious if looking for it.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Decent trails from Pepper's POV given generally soft paw paths, gentle slopes, shade from the sun and complete solitude, but there weren't enough sip n dips until Unknown Pond. There were small seeps in the notches and some cols he could drink from but he drank several times from water in a bowl. This is really a must bring water for pupper trail system.
Bugs
Bugs: A few biters and on a couple of peaks many flyers.

Comments
Comments: The trails were mostly dry with good footbeds which made for easy hiking, we had a few views, the weather was nice and we never saw another soul all day. The amazing ageless wonder Georg used this short form Kilkenny Traverse to bag Cabot and help Pepper redline a couple of trail sections. He had done the full traverse a few weeks earlier, so it was an especially nice gift from one of Pepper's favorites. Thanks Georg from Pepper and me. Thanks Pepper for a great excuse to skip work and enjoy a great day on the trails. September is oh so sweet in the Whites.
