| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Parked just outside of the gate close to Mill Brook trailhead. I figured " one less thing to worry about" in terms of the 4pm gate. It was closed on my return but only "phantom locked" and could be opened if one were to be on the wrong side. |

| Surface Conditions: |
Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable |

| Water Crossing Notes: |
Easy rock hopping |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Mill brook trail is in fantastic shape, not a single blowdown. Recent trail work was apparent. Kilkenny Ridge tr had nothing significant in terms of blowdown other than a few between the area of Horn and Cabot summit. Bunnell Notch had some muddy areas, but not bad. Trail down low is chocked with dense growth Ina couple spots along the logging road section. |

"The long road to Cabot"
Mill Brook trail was an absolute pleasure to walk on, especially in its upper section just before it's intersection with Kilkenny. Just beautiful. Follow the directions in the guide to the small brown pump house on the right to find the trail.
Couldn't resist the out and back to Roger's Ledge being so close and never been there, 100% worth it. What a view and perch to sit in the warm sun. Pockets of fall color below in the valley. Kilkenny Ridge trail to Unknown Pond was also new territory for me and quite lovely past Kilback Pond and through the birches below Unknown Pond Peak. Great stop at Unknown before climbing to Horn where views were A+, it had been 7 years since my last visit. Over Bulge and Cabot was nothing too noteworthy, took a break at the former tower site/cabin for the view. Down Bunnell Notch was a little tedious at the end of the day but powered through it. 2 mile road walk back to my car wasn't too bad but far from ideal, this was where I payed the Piper for my fun day looping the long way to Cabot! |
