only person heading up Valley Way today, it appears; one set of footsteps from yesterday, covered with some fresh snow. Thank you to whoever broke out the trail! Made it easy to follow. While not needed right from the start, I put snowshoes on in parking lot, because I did not want to stop again soon to put them on. I was thankful for them once I reached the 0.8 mile marker/trail juncture. All loose snow along the entire trail, so sinking in at all times; snowshoes great. No other trail besides Valley Way broken in. No ice issues at all, as in it was there but I did not slip once; snowshoes provided great traction. I turned around below Hut as one of my snowshoes broke, and there was no way to fix it. I opted for turning around, as I was not going to attempt to hike up higher without them. Upon my return, fresh tracks at Mt Adams trail juncture near parking lot. While being a 'no summit'-day, beautiful day nonetheless with sunshine for half the hike and light snow during the descend. |
