Only one or two minor step-overs, well maintained trail for sure. |

The trail was very well packed out, and with no significant post-holing. I used snowshoes, and Margaret used Hillsound Pro crampons (without causing any post-holing), the entire way. The snow was not stiff enough for microspikes to have been of much use, but the trail probably could have been bare-booted the entire way, although with more effort than with traction.
It was a very nice day to be out. There was a solid cloud layer from about 2000' to 3000' elevation, so at the view points there was a sea of clouds below, with peaks sticking up through it, and with cloudless blue sky above. At road level there was unbroken cloud cover--one never would have know that it was a bluebird day above 3000'. And hiking up (and down) through the cloud layer was like hiking in fog. Great time. |
