Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes:
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Nothing remarkable-a really nice trail overall
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Both dogs, one tall-one short, had no issues.
Bugs
Bugs: Not much of a buggy trip, in fact two of the group did the hike without any bug sauce....we did have the occasional deer fly orbit our heads now and again...might have been the same one
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Ran across a couple who had lost their dog, "Emma" up on Piper; a good reminder to keep your canine hiking buddies close or on a leash if there is a question that they might take off. I only hope they found her :(

Comments
Comments: We intended to hike up the Gunstock Trail but could not find the trailhead...found Piper and just went for it. It was a hot day to start and there was some concern that we did not pack enough water....(a good thing to bring in abundance if you are planning this loop trail in 75+ temps) but things cooled off and it was a great day to be out on the trails. Crowds were minimal and the bugs were only truly annoying up on Belknap. Views a bit hazy from the tower but not too windy. After making it to Gunstock (which was our favorite part of the hike) we again, could not find the trailhead for Gunstock (found the ridge trail). Instead of chancing it, we hiked blue and headed down between Gunstock and Belknap to the upper parking lot and walked the dirt road down; which does nothing for old knees. Still it was a great hike with only one suggestion....better markers for the Gunstock trail!
