One step-over crossing was negligible. |

A couple of duck-unders are going to be difficult as the snow depth increases. |

Too much open ice above treeline and around the hut for a dog. |

The trail was mostly packed and some folks did it in light traction but there were plenty of postholes especially higher up. You want snowshoes at this point, especially if you're going to take a single step to the side or off Valley Way.
I did my best with my snowshoes to smooth things back out. Above the hut there's not enough snow coverage and plenty of ice, you'll want crampons and step very carefully, there's some packed snow but also a lot of blue ice and of course some rock-stepping, too. |
