| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
parking area not maintained for winter. old troy roa is maintained about 3/4 of a mile short of the parking area, but was passable today in my sedan due to prior drivers and light snow depth. don't know if this would be the case after another storm. |

given a few inches of powder in the parking lot i put on snowshoes, but soon ditched them as the trail was very bony. there is a fair amount of ice in the middle 1/3 of the trail with a layer of snow on top. was fine in aggressive light traction though i did find alternatives to a couple icy scrambles. higher up the ledges were all snow covered some with ice underneath and some not. above the treeline most of the rock had a thin cover of rime like ice that gripped quite well.
though the forecast for sun in that part of the state didn't materialize it was still a nice hike up monadnock. views were clouded in south and west, but north and east had some nice looks to the surrounding peaks and lakes. quite warm with not even a breeze of note. |
