First, a huge thanks to Mike Lynch for posting and the whole crew for breaking it out. Today the bottom of the trail was still real nice with a couple of inches of new powder. Starting at the last really steep section before the intersection with the AT, the drifting was knee to mid thigh deep. it continued like that for most of the ledge section. above the ledges there was intermittent deep drifts and areas blown clean. I actually had to put on goggles for the first time this year in the last open area before dropping down into the woods before the summit. Almost put the face mask on as well. Real good workout. Had to break out the same areas on the way back, it was like I hadn't been there. This was one peak that I wasn't sure I could get done alone. Without the efforts of the group yesterday I couldn't have done it. Thanks again. Oh, and on my way down bare booters had turned back at the first brook crossing. Good decision. I couldn't imagine bare booting to the summit in these conditions. Right now snow shoes are your friends. |
