A bright blue sky afternoon for a jaunt up to Mt. Rowe. The lower section of the Mt. Rowe trail was well broken out and pretty firm. You could probably bare boot this section but I chose to use snowshoes the whole way. The trail softened up considerably after the upper junction with the Benjamin Weeks Trail, snowshoes are a definite here. Looks like most of the traffic was using the Yellow Trail vs. the Mt. Rowe Trail for the ascent. Once up on the Ridge trail it became a posthole nightmare. Lots of postholes making for difficult footing with snowshoes. Saw a lot of small critter tracks in the snow. Also quite a lot of deer activity along the lower portion of the Mt. Rowe Trail. A great day! |
