Comments
Comments: the night project continues. Accompanied by the affable T. Cross, left the car at Pinkham and hitched a ride to 19 Mile trailhead. 40's, sunny at the 5:30 start. Ok, so not dark at 5:30 now, but I rationalize it that 19 Mile is practically a road now, so......Anyway, I'm just making this up as I go along anyway. Bare-booted to Carter Dome Trail because we could stay on top of the ribbon without damage. Switched to shoes until we started down into the Notch. The steeps were a butt-sled-tracked nightmare, so we switched to micros to the hut. Stopped in just before 9:00, grabbed some water off the stove and chatted with James for awhile. Windy as hell along the ponds as we walked back to Wildcat Ridge Trail and getting alot colder with the front roaring through. Stayed in micros up the steeps to A as the track had softened during the day and then froze. Great stars on the ridge and tons of breeze. Started snowing when we got to the D platform. At the top of the lift we decided to follow the Black Diamond fall-line instead of Polecat, cause there wasn't anyone around to say no. 35 minutes to the lodge and 1:15AM on the clock. Walked up the road to the car and were back in Boston by 5:30. As always, so great to be up high in the winter at night.
