Comments
Comments: Started at about 7:45 and after about 1/2 mile, a couple of ski patrol guys passed us and waved "hi". We weren't so lucky as the 3rd patrol guy stopped us and told us to either go back down and hike up the designated trails or walk into the woods to the east of the trail (out of bounds). We opted for choice #2 and immediately found ourselves in the lovely ski glades, very much packed down and easy to follow. At some point close to the top of Loon's north peak, we popped back out to the steep ski trail, stayed far left and then saw the 2 boundary signs. This is where we took a sharp left and found the ski trail to Black Mountain (after stumbling around for a while).
Following Steve's report, at about .7 miles, we took a right into the woods to start our bushwhack. This is where the fun began. We saw occasional trace evidence of hikers from a couple of weeks ago but otherwise fumbled our way to the summit and the orange canister. We ended up in lots of spruce traps and made plenty of postholes even with snow shoes. Snow is still very deep up there. Great day to get #88.
