Comments
Comments: Saturday wasn't the best day for a hike... A beautiful, warm partly cloudy day flipped very quickly and made way for a huge thunder storm (I saw one lightening flash) with hail, rain and snow all within about an hour. The recent warm temps have made the snow very unstable - we were falling in every other step in some areas - it was incredibly frustrating. The snow is 3-4 inches in many areas; my friend and I (she's 5'1 and I'm 5'2) were buried above our waists often. By the end we were soaked (from falling in the snow mainly - not the storm) and our socks/shoes were drenched. Crampons recommended down low, still a lot of ice. The big inconveniences were the unstable, warm snow, ice patches and the stream running down the mountain which made for very muddy and wet conditions with big patches of ice still in tack, some of which break when you step on it. Even those with snowshoes were falling into the snow but it might help in some areas.
