For Cube, I would say, no need for snowshoes. I carried them the entire way and only used them for about 20min at the top of black hill. Probably no major need for them for this entire trip, however there is some annoying soft and somewhat deep stuff at the top of black hill.
I started by hiking up and over cube on the AT (Mt. Cube and Kodak trails), making a visit to Hexacube shelter. From the Kodak trailhead I began walking east on the road, eventually reaching a pond on the South Branch, from which I headed towards Black Hill. I had to bypass some swampy areas. Following this, I had good woods until the top. Near the summit was a bit thicker and there was some spring snow to put up with. I then finished the loop by bushwhacking to where the Brackett Brook crosses the mt. Cube trail. This was a nice loop. |
