Wished I'd carried my hand saw, there were a few not-too-large blowdowns across the Pumpelly. |

Black flies are out now, but caused no problem except when stopped for more than a couple of minutes. No mosquitoes or larger flies yet. |

Only small patches of mud or water or snow or ice here and there, all easily avoided. Margaret and I enjoyed this first New England mountain hike of the spring season--it was quite a contrast to our April hiking in Southern Utah's National Parks. |
