Comments
Comments: Based on a report from a few days earlier, I carried snowshoes and micro-spikes in anticipation of deep snow and ice between Jennings Peak and the summit of Sandwich Dome, but that was a wasted effort. There is essentially nothing on the ground until passing through the flat-ish area just after the spur to Jennings Peak. The only real hazard is avoiding dozens of prolific piles of moose scat for several hundred meters. As the trail heads up toward Sandwich, some traces of snow/ice appear, but they're easy to avoid. At about 3600' the snow and ice become more pronounced, but they're still not hard to get around. There is one leftover big drift (perhaps 30' long) that is unavoidable shortly before the summit. It was solid enough for me to kick steps and walk on since the temperature was about 40. Within a few more warmer, sunny days, it will be narrow enough to walk around. Snowshoes and/or microspikes are absolutely not needed.
