Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: The crossing of the Wild River is as described in the WMG, a ford. Thigh to knee deep fast moving water, and this is at fairly low water levels. Would be downright impossible with the river running high.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: A bunch of step-over, climb-over, and duck-under blowdowns, all of various vintages. Par for the course for a wilderness trail. Blazing faded and sporadic, but trail is easily followed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Harvey enjoyed his time out in the woods with us today.
Bugs
Bugs: Bad at the cars, but none seemed to be around on the trail.

Comments
Comments: Botched communications led Jake and I to start this hike separately, nearly an hour apart. Fording the Wild River, I made great time up to the junction, where I ran into Jake and Harvey, who had been scouting around for the better part of 45 minutes. There was some lingering snow on the trail in the hollow just below the height of land on the south side of Shelburne Trail. We picked up a herd path off the height of land, and bushwhacked through thick and thin woods alike to the summit of Howe Peak, where the views were excellent. Picked up sections of the old Kenduskeag Trail, and followed it back to the start of our bushwhack. Back on down the trail, we had a second bracing crossing of the Wild River, then had a beer while being pestered by bugs. Only one more trail section left in the Carter/Baldface area!
