| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The ever lovely Lincoln Woods parking lot and bathrooms were in great shape. Rangers' cabin was open, had a nice talk with the early hour ranger. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Wet/Slippery Rock, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable, Mud - Significant |
| Recommended Equipment: |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Despite the rain during the hike and the previous evening, the many crossings were not hard. Some were rock hops, some rocks submerged. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Pine Island was great. The blazes look new and the trail was easy to follow. I understand it was destroyed by Irene, thank you to the maintainers for bringing it back! There are several birches lying across the East side trail - easy to step over. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
If your dog loves water, (s)he will think it's heaven on earth. |
| Bugs: |
A few mosquitos. They did not like the rain, so I guess it has its advantages. |

| Comments: |
An educational trip - found out that waterproof is a relative term! Other than getting soaked, it was a nice trip. Flower lovers; there were many lady slippers (varying shades of pink and white, as well), white violets, a few purple, a few late painted trillium, trout lilly, bunchberry. A few nice views of some mountains, although restricted and in and out of the fog. We had planned on following the trail until I was too tired or too wet, we went about a half-mile beyond the campsite and then turned around. Please be aware that there is a lot going on there with road work and that the washed out ditch is still washed out (they are working on it). |
