Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Numerous water crossings. Only two within the first mile of the Baldface Circle trail may be a little tricky. With a little finesse you'll keep your shoes dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There has been a lot of work on these trails, not a single blowdown. Baldface Circle trail has very clear yellow trail markers up to the Meader Ridge connection. After Eagle Craig (especially in the fog) the cairns can be difficult to see. The yellow trail markers are faded (some are actually a faint white) along Meader Ridge but if your keep your eyes open you'll have no problem following the trails.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: The ERD (my 10 lb chihuahua) had no problems on this 10.7 mile treck. I was tired but he was fine ;). Lots of water on the trails
Bugs
Bugs: I had no issue with bugs until I got to the Meader Ridge/Mt Meader/Basin Ridge trail intersection. I stopped to feed the dog and got attacked by black flies! There are quite a number of yellow jackets on the top portion of the Mt. Meader trail. I had no issues with them but I thought I would mention it. Many mosquitoes all the way down Mt. Meader trail.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: none

Comments
Comments: Lots of mud on the trails, especially the Baldface Circle trail. Most areas you can avoid it, the areas that you can't is not deep enough to be a problem.

Most of the Baldface Circle trail ascends slowly and easily. The last half mile is very steep, slippery rock face. The last 1/4 mile is a rock scramble, currently wet, making foot and hand placement a little tricky.

I expected Meader Ridge trail to have more views, but a lot of the 2 mile trek is under tree cover with occasional peakaboo views. Mt Meader Trail is less steep than I expected, not a bad way down. It's an easy road walk back to the parking area.
