Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Large lot off the Kanc. Was full when we arrived midday, mostly empty when we returned.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Downes Brook can be crossed with care. Some rocks are just under the water, so it's a little bit of a puzzle figuring out the best line across as you go. Go slow and steady and it's fine.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: All trails in great shape. Only one minor blowdown on the upper relocation of the MPT, easily stepped over.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Fine for dogs, but didn't see any. No water past the Brook crossing.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad in the woods, but awful at the summit. I was in a cloud of black flies, so I finally broke down and used repellent. There was a slight breeze, but I would have appreciated more wind!
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing.

Comments
Comments: An afternoon hike up Potash, a 52WAV peak that never disappoints. Cool temps and clear dry air made it feel more like autumn. The MPT is one of my favorite trails, and it was as lovely as ever. We had a nice relaxed pace as we looked for mushrooms and other fungis along the way. Views from the summit ledges were amazing as always, we stayed up there for about an hour. Descending, I kept staring over at Downes Brook Slide on Passaconaway. The lower portion looks bigger and more open now, but maybe it's always been that way. Still on my bucket list...
