Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I expected Lucy Brook to be a problem, but both Lucy Brook and Moat Brook were easily walked across. I didn't come close to getting my shoes wet. Bring water for your dog. The summit and ridge areas are dry.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were a couple of walk-unders on the col section of Moat Mountain Trail, and a couple of walk-overs and one walk-around on the Red Ridge Trail. None will cause you any problems. The blazes are faded on the col section of the Moat Mountain Trail, and intermittent sections of the Red Ridge trail. It's not too much of a problem, just keep an eye for them.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: There is a small section near the summit of North Moat, on Moat Mountain trail, where a dog might need a little help, and a few sections when descending Red Ridge Trail. Otherwise a great loop for dogs.
Bugs
Bugs: No problem the entire hike.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: none

Comments
Comments: The Moat Mountain trail is very easy going until you reach the Attitash junction, from there it’s a continuous, steady climb with good footing. The last 700 feet of elevation is a nice quad blaster – nature’s stair master. I enjoyed the trail. It is a relatively easy, quick route for anyone who just wants to summit North Moat and go back down. I had a little trouble finding where the Moat Mountain trail continued but finally spotted the blaze and proceeded down toward the narrow path. This section of the trail is rather overgrown and poorly marked. Although it’s just over a mile, this dark, viewless section seemed to drag on forever until you get closer to the Red Ridge trail. Then it opens up to rust colored rock slabs with great views. When you emerge onto the open ledges of the Red Ridge trail – wow! The Red Ridge Trail is very steep going down. You may want to ascend Red Ridge and go down Moat Mountain trail which is less steep.
