Comments
Comments: Nice walk from lower hairpin on Kancamagus Highway. Left Cedar Brook Trail where it turned away from the brook and walked down Cedar Brook about a mile until it hit the East Side Trail. Took a dip on the slabs on East Branch. Saw no one until campsite on access road-- only one tentsite occupied. Now that the bridge is gone, much less use on East Side Trail.
What a contrast between my solitary hike and getting back to the Kanc on the weekend of the 4th. Had to stick out my thumb, and stood on roadside for half hour with the eastern megalopolis roaring by, before getting ride with hiker back to my car. Later, minor accident at Lower Falls caused car backup, cars stopping everywhere and people running across road to go swimming, bikers passing---what a zoo!
