Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: We parked at the modest pulloff where Hogan meets North and were the only one. The usual parking at Centennial is better shaded and it had one car there on our return leg.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Wet Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: All small streams easily crossed.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Peabody Creek, Great Falls, & Bald Cap Peak Ledges were in great shape. Mahoosucs had the usual water/mud section once up from Dream Lake, and then an occasional mud spot in otherwise nice, sometimes great trails. Centennial also fine. All signs were in place, and there were no blowdowns, with trails generally well brushed and waterbars cleared. A NOBO had trouble finding the trail as it crossed Page Pond's outlet until we surprised him in his search, and thus inadvertently showed him the way. Very nice work trail crew and maintainers.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Pepper would say Mahoosucs could use a few more sip n dips especially from Trident Pass to past Cascade Mtn. Bring water. But otherwise these trails are easy on the paws, pretty well shaded, not busy and filled with squeaky toys. One spruce grouse charged me from a bush in full battle display and was within a couple of feet when Pepper came charging from behind and nearly caught the bird as it veered off in panic mode. It's nice to have a personal body guard.
Bugs
Bugs: Not bad.

Comments
Comments: The "excuse" for doing this hike was the .2 mil Trident Col tentsite doubleline, but this is a great loop hike far from the maddening crowds. The road walk in the morning is pleasant; there is little traffic almost any time of day but especially then. Great Falls is a great falls, The BCP ledges have wonderful views, Dream Lake is splendid, and in general it is a splendid woods walk on nice trails. The frog choruses and Raven rants were entertaining. We had Peabody and Bald Cap Peak Ledges all to ourselves, but the Mahoosucs had a fair number of NOBOs including Scott Jurek and his small party of photographers & advisors. There was no activity at the Trident Col tentsite when we were there. We especially enjoyed talking with a SOBO, Wolverine, who has previously done the PCT, CDCT & AT (NOBO). Thanks Pepper for a great summer hike.
