Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Small streams, easily hopped. Tunnel Brook crosses the Benton Trail close to the trailhead. With a little exploration, it is possible to find a location where one can rock-hop across. In higher water (after a big rain) one may need to wade. On Tunnel Brook Trail, lots of small streams in the northern half of the trail. Some tricky spots navigating around the ponds in the middle section of trail. Some larger stream crossings at the southern end of the trail. I was always able to hop or rock-hop.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Glencliff Trail is in good shape; no blowdowns. Benton Trail is generally in good shape with a few blowdowns - all easily stepped-over. For Tunnel Brook Trail, the southern half of the trail (from Long Pond Road to Mud Pond) is in good shape and very pleasant. The middle half of the trail (around and among the ponds) is unmarked, tricky to follow, overgrown in places, and with several blowdowns. The northern half of the trail is mixed; some sections are fine, some are hard to follow, and there are several blowdowns (all step-over). The trail is unmarked throughout its length.

Comments
Comments: Remember that Tunnel Brook Road (at the northern end) is closed about 1.6 miles from the trailhead, because it was washed out in Irene. After walking up the road, remain confident; the trailhead is hiding among overgrown brush - just plow in through it at the end of the road and you'll find a trail sign.

Nice view of Little Tunnel Ravine at one outcrop. Sadly, no view into Tunnel Ravine and its new (2012) slide.

If you want to visit the ponds, I strongly recommend approaching from the southern end. Very nice trail and the ponds are very pretty (see photos at link). Don't bother with the northern end of the trail unless you are interested in making the loop with Benton and Glencliff trails - or wait for winter and ski the whole trail, very nice.
