Date of Hike: Tuesday, August 18, 2015
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Nice lot with some shade. Not crowded mid week. Right next to the power substation.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Rock hopping over Drakes Brook.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Sandwich mountain trail markings sparse and faded and had an older blowdown that the trail has gone around but could easily be followed on the worn path. Might be a little more challenge with leaf or snow cover.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: I didn't read about the lack of water on the Sandwich Mountain Trail and underestimated the amount of water we would need on a warm day for a dog with a full coat. We had to head back down rather than continue to Sandwich Dome. On Drakes Brook there was plenty of water in the brook which the trail runs near in several spots.
Bugs
Bugs: A few flies but not bad.

Comments
Comments: There were a couple of other cars but we didn't see anyone else on the trails on a warm mid week day. The trail is mostly shaded and with altitude and streams and Drakes Brook it wasn't too hot overall even though it was uncomfortably hot a the base when we got back. The hike up Sandwich Mountan Trail to Noon Peak was the most challenging mostly because of the grade. There were no real scrambles that I recall.
