Comments
Comments: Slowly chipping away at my northern-most 52WAV peaks, this is #44 (North Percy). A gorgeous day on the Percys! I set out wanting to find the abandoned Underhill / West Side Trail on the way up, but couldn't locate the bottom of it. Based on the other recent report here, I have a better idea for next time. A nice climb up to the col, where I picked up the Old Summer Club Trail for a short stretch to the SPS. Not sure of the status of this trail, which I would call a "formal herd path". It is signed "To South Percy" at the junction, and I spotted a couple of old red blazes. It climbs steeply up the side of South Percy, through a beautiful mossy area and over some small scrambles. A really cool trail. South Percy has great views I thought, just not the expansive ones that North Percy has. I hopped down a bit to a lower ledge to get an unobstructed view over to North Percy. The summit jar is still on South Percy. I was curious about reading the log, but it was really jammed in there tightly.

After a bit of time there, I dropped back down and climbed North Percy. From South Percy, the ledges look really precipitous, but they are actually not that bad, and are actually quite short. I'd compare it to climbing the Clark Trail on Mt. Cardigan. The slabs are very sticky with a thick texture, but would not want to try them when wet. Amazing views from the open slabs, and also from walking around the various ledges on the summit. I believe I spotted the top of the Underhill / West Side Trail for future exploration.

Dropping back down to the col, I hopped on the PL and descended down and around North Percy, stopping to check out the Percy Loop Tentsite. After that, the trail was a long walk out along a wide logging road with easy grades. Next time I'll probably skip the Percy Loop. It wasn't bad, just not all that exciting. Back at Nash Stream Road, I walked the road back to my car.
