Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Parking at the end of the branch road for the tower. This is three miles from Magalloway Road, 8 miles in from Rt. 3. There are signs to the tower all the way in from Rt. 3. Magalloway Road is a well graded private logging road, passable by any car. The branch road to the tower is narrower and rougher and requires some care in navigating. There are several culverts that are either collapsed or sticking up which should be negotiated carefully in low clearance vehicles. All in all, the trailhead is a LONG drive in from the highway to a remote area with no cell coverage or services of any kind.

Comments
Comments: This was going to be my morning hike, but I pushed it off until the afternoon, waiting out the rainy weather. Glad I did, as the skies cleared up nicely. After the long and bumpy drive in, I started up the rough, eroded CT. This trail is steep in places, and must have been an "interesting" Jeep ride when it was in service. A few brief sections of the trail are closed with very short bypasses around them. Once on the summit, I headed down the Overlook Trail, which affords dramatic and dizzying views from high atop the cliffs on the mountains east side. One of the outlooks was very Table Rock-ish, where you could walk out a bit and ledge drops away straight down on three sides. I spotted a herd path along the OT that started out very clear for a few yards, then got vague and seemed to plunge right off the cliffs. Anyone know where this goes? Climber's trail, perhaps? Back up on the summit, I climbed the tower for amazing views in all directions. On my way out I descended the side trail to the spring, which drops pretty steeply down to a small pool. For the descent I came down the BT which is more of a trail than a road.
