Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Nice new, expensive bridges and re-routes on the Eastside Trail - terrific for bike riding! Then, Bryan tested the Thoreau Falls Trail Bridge and deemed it quite safe. Later, at the old RR crossing at Jumping Brook, I took off my sneakers and fell in up to my waist and possibly armpits - GRRRR. Later, we forded the Pemi River near the Wilderness boundary (just over sneaker tops unless you stood on the actual river bottom, in which case you could go over knee-deep or worse if you slip!!!
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Wilderness areas were, well, wilderness with lots of step-overs and the occasional axed-out log - those were nice!!!! The usual drainage issues on many of the other trails.

Comments
Comments: Excellent day exploring DEEP in the Pemi for Camp 22-A. This camp is reported somewhere between Camp 22 (on the west side of the North Fork) and the summit of Mt Bond.

We rode our bikes up the East Side Road and chained them at the wilderness boundary. From there, took the Wilderness Trail to the Thoreau Falls Trail. We crossed the North Fork at the old train spur across the North Fork. From there, we climbed the streamed south of new camp 22 (on the west side of the North Fork of the Pemi) and found LOTS of skidder roads and corduroy roads crossing the stream. Not sure the stream has a name?

We found some interesting buried (but LOUD) stream areas, particularly near the head of the stream at around 3200'. We SCOURED the skidder roads abutting the stream and followed them away from the stream as well as contoured west from about 3200' and found several candidate spots that might have been the camp areas but did not find relics specifically in those areas (though we did find some in the stream on the way up).

Unfortunately, we did not really find a dominant trunk road up to the location we were expecting but we did find some EXTREMELY labor-intensive rock work on either a significant logging road or one of the major skidder roads - not really sure as we are not aware of any relics in the area.

From the head of the stream we contoured southwest from 3200' until we reached the col between this drainage and Black Brook, then, hooked up over the col and went west until we intersected the Bondcliff Trail.

Then, on the way back, we crossed the Pemi near the wilderness boundary and rode our bikes back for a quick exit. Just under 20 miles total for the day including bike miles. Very fun! Thank you Bryan and Amy!!! :)
