Been up Carr many times but this time decided to explore the woods roads near Sucker Brook. I am assuming this was the original route to the Carr Mountain Trail. Woods Road was very wet and soggy and there was a difficult crossing of Sucker Brook (no bridge - I didn't cross the brook here) near Stinson Lake Road. At that point I turned and took what I thought might have been the original telephone line route to the Mt Carr Trail and it was a good road until it disappeared at around 1700'. From there i continued bushwhacking west until I hit the trail.
At about 2350' I noticed a very old and wide woods road leaving southbound and took that for a quarter mile until it started to turn downhill in a col. From there I bushwhacked up towards an unnamed bump with very thick fir trees. There was no view - I returned the way I came back to the Carr Mountain Trail and headed for the summit. Excellent views from the cement stairs. For the descent I took the regular trails. |
