Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The small York Pond trailhead parking was full when I arrived so I parked at the Unknown Pond trailhead. I departed well before the 4:00PM gate closing at the Berlin fish hatchery. York Pond Road was bare with no snow or ice.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Snow - Trace/Minimal Depth, Ice - Blue, Ice - Breakable Crust, Standing/Running Water on Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Small brooks easily crossed. There were dry rocks to use without a coating of ice.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Trails in good condition. Some muddy spots. One tree crossing above trail at about five feet on Kilkenny Ridge trail uphill from junction with the old Cabot Trail. No problem today but may be more difficult when snow depth increases. Blazes are scarce on Bunnell Notch trail which may cause a hiker to miss the turn away from the brook during the snow season.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: None today but trail is fine for dogs.

Comments
Comments: Only saw one other hiker on the trail today. The trail was bare ground and semi-frozen mud on York Pond and the old logging road section of the Bunnell Notch trail. Thereafter there was about an inch of snow with minor drifting in open areas (about a half a foot maximum behind the cabin). The worst ice on the trail was in the Bunnell Rock section of the Kilkenny Ridge trail. Nice views of the Mahoosuc Range and to Cannon and the Franconia Range far to the south. The snow on the evergreen boughs is ushering in the holiday season.
There were footprints out of Bunnell Notch towards Terrace Mountain and footprints off the summit of Mt Cabot toward Unknown Pond.
