This was for Karen's 99th or 105th (depending on which list you use) of her NHHH. We drove into the TH on Meriden Hill Rd and then Brown Road, I used my truck and would not recommend using a low clearance vehicle. The road gets pretty rough and rocky after the first bridge. Parked in a field at end of the road, If the owners of the nice camp are home I would recommend requesting permission as a courtesy, they are very nice and, as hikers, we would like to keep it that way. From here we generally followed the logging/snowmobile path up for about two miles to a large old logging yard. Turned right and headed up the well defined skidder trails which are beginning to show a lot of new growth hobble bush but still easy walking in a generally Southerly direction until they gave way to well defined herd paths. Now moving in a more easterly route through open woods and finding the ridge which circled to the east side of Castle right up to the summit. Actually a fairly easy summit, 4 hours round trip for the 5.5 miles and a wonderful day with a light falling snow. |
