Comments
Comments: The Champney Falls Trail is easily barebooted up to maybe 2.25 miles and then ice and/or frozen ground with packed traces of snow made things slick. I put on my microspikes here and left them on until I popped out of the trees about to ascend the First Sister. I also wore them on descent of First Sister en route to Middle Sister and then the entire Champney Falls Cutoff on my way out. I was in the microspike minority today - and the on/off routine was a minor nuisance - but I encountered some folks later in the day who wished they had them and another who slipped right in front of me.

I'd like to thank yesterday's poster of their Middle Sister trip as until I read that last night I had no idea where I was going for a hike today and that report lit the light bulb. Warm temps, abundant sun, stunning views and a nap on Middle Sister fit the bill quite nicely. Except for two twosomes going in opposite directions I didn't see anyone else on the Sisters today. A stolen December day I'd say.
