Only had a limited amount of time today so we decided on this easy 200. Followed the trail to the first water crossing (Jordan Brook) and then pretty much followed the drainage and an easterly bearing all the way through open hardwood and birch to the ridge. Just below the summit we encountered a fir band and I did find a fairly open slot through it but we headed north off the ridge for a little bit and found it was less steep and more open through the fir. We ended up just north of our upward path parallel to it making for an easier descent. Saw loads of animal activity today especially in the open woods; Moose and Deer with a lot of rubbing on trees. In the upper elevation above 2800' we saw day old Bear tracks, probably looking for the winter cave - and there are a few in the cliff face that we scrambled over just before the summit. Found the Mason Jar left behind by CRCC tied to the handle at the summit. Another fine day in the woods with Karen. |
