Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: crossing of cedar brook was hoppable stepping in some water or one could use one of a couple nearby blowdowns to shuffle across. thoreau falls bridge status has not changed. fine to cross on (and likely will be for some time). that crossing would have been very wet and potentially dangerous if the bridge was not there. this is the time of year the forest service should be out there assessing the viability of the crossing rather than during the dryest summer in years.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: blowdowns along all trails in the wilderness as expected.

Comments
Comments: trails were damp in spots with a little bit of frost early, but otherwise this was like a fall hike. no snow, ice, etc. pretty surreal. we followed thoreau falls trail until in begins to climb up on the west slopes of shoal pond peak and started our bushwhack. after some steep woods we enjoyed a long stretch of nice open woods with moderate grades before the final climb up to the summit area in scrappier spruce and fir. some nice views from the open woods back to the bonds. good woods on the summit plateau to the recognized highpoint. from the summit we took a bearing on the col with the south peak of the mountain and after some tight spruce the going was great to the col and beyond. some steep woods and scrappy going up to the highpoint of the northern bump then a short drop and ascent to the recognized south bump. there is a nice nearby view to the carrigain notch area. a drop west from the summit found generally good mixed woods back down to the thoreau falls trail. some soggy spots in the drainage, but easily avoided. from there it was a straight forward walk back out to lincoln woods.
