The Chippewa trail is a mix of ice, bare trail and packed snow barely covering the trail. If I had to guess these conditions are in near equal amounts though varied throughout. Even the bare trail was well frozen in spots making Microspikes a good choice today.
I didn't see anyone on my ascent and had the summit to myself along with the handful of viewpoints along the way. Even with the clouds this morning fine views were had at all of them. One the way down I only encountered three folks and the two pooches. The side trip to the Lime Kilns is well worth it IMO. Quite a nice way to spend a morning! |
