Crossings on Carter Dome Trail were rock hops, with ice on them, but perfectly doable, especially if you have poles. |

I used microspikes to Carter Hut, but probably would have made better time if I had just put on crampons from the get go. Did put crampons on at hut for going up Carter Dome. You could use snowshoes from Hut, though not needed from a snow depth standpoint, but up to hut it's just plain old ice. Sooo, either sharp microspikes, Hillsounds, or crampons best bet. On the descent I feel I'd have taken some tumbles with-out crampons. |
