Caught a nice day before the front rolled through. The road walk up to the trail head is a sheet of crusty ice requiring micro-spikes. Once on the trail, micro-spikes are fine but soon the trail turns into a continuing series of ice bulges that are better approached with crampons or similar. The summit is bare and lunch at the top afforded views of Monadnock to the West and Cardigan and the Whites to the North. Took a good slider down one of the bulges on the way down Barlow trail. Thus my recommendation for crampons. A nice day for a new summit. |
